Healthcare Planner / Designer

We have an immediate opening for a Healthcare Planner / Designer with 5-8 years of progressive experience in healthcare planning and design. The role is based in our Los Angeles office, where we take pride in working with great clients, and push ourselves to create exceptional spaces and healthy environments for building occupants.

In this role as Healthcare Planner / Designer, you will:

  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, facilities, and other clinical stakeholders to develop planning concepts and solutions.
  • Prepare and present planning and design concepts to clients.
  • Understand and integrate operational improvement strategies into your work.
  • Play an integral role in facilitating user meetings, visioning sessions, and Lean workshops.
  • Lead the healthcare planning of small to mid-sized projects. Work closely with the healthcare Principals on large, complex projects.
  • Be responsible for developing flow diagrams, space plans, programs, detailed room layouts, and coordinating medical equipment.
  • Work with contractors, consultants and associate firms to implement design concepts through project completion.
  • Work closely with the project designer to ensure that planning and design work are integrated throughout.
  • Facilitate project reviews with authorities having jurisdiction, including OSHPD, and ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Be involved in projects ranging from master plans and detailed project programming to tenant improvement projects and ground-up hospitals.
  • Conduct research and identify learning opportunities in the industry to keep abreast of the latest healthcare trends and best practices and apply this to your work.
  • Be able to direct and manage the work of junior designers.


  • Have a professional architecture or interior design degree and a minimum of 5-8 years of experience in healthcare projects. A licensed professional with LEED accreditation is strongly preferred.
  • An affinity and sensitivity to design and the human experience.
  • Demonstrate credible knowledge of current healthcare planning and programming trends, including but not limited to: evidence-based design principles, infection control, family-based care, technology, medical equipment, and best practices in various health and wellness specialties.
  • A broad range of experience in a variety of healthcare project types (i.e. inpatient, cancer centers, clinics, rehabilitation facilities, etc.) as well as other non-healthcare projects.
  • Experience with OSHPD and working knowledge of FGI.
  • Adept at maintaining relationships with clients and consultants.
  • Wants to be continuously challenged and supported, while progressing your career and leading and growing in an architectural practice committed to excellence and pushing at the edge of invention.
  • Proficient, if not an expert, in PC systems, Revit, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills, both internally with the team, and externally with clients and the industry.
  • Must be willing to travel.
